Bench and Pilot Studies

Remediation Bench & Pilot-Scale Testing

The chemical, biogeochemical, and microbiological data obtained during site characterization can help identify a limited number of remedial alternatives worthy of further consideration.  This selection process may include bench-scale experiments, in-well microcosms and pilot studies.

Enhanced in-situ bioremediation technologies typically involve biostimulation - application of amendments to enhance contaminant biodegradation, whereas oxidative reagents are used to promote chemical oxidation (abiotic degradation).  Remediation diagnostics can be used to supplement chemical and geochemical analyses to gain better insight into the evaluation and selection of appropriate remedies, such as in-situ remediation.

Additionally, remediation diagnostics can be used to provide "additional lines of evidence" as part of the baseline sampling before implementing active in-situ remediation.  Monitoring during and after active remediation provides comprehensive data to support an effective transition to monitored natural attenuation (MNA).

IAL can design and perform meaningful bench and field-scale tests of in-situ remedial alternatives.  Our scientists can provide the level of support appropriate to your technical requirements, from complete experimental design and testing, to supplementing your remediation professionals by providing laboratory (bench) testing, analytical and "behind the curtain" technical support services.

IAL can support and perform field-scale pilot tests, recommend amendment injections, provide technical review of performance data and provide recommendations for scaling up treatment and related process monitoring of contaminants, geochemical and microbiological parameters.  IAL provides the benefits of having a full-service, certified environmental laboratory for both analytical and technical support services.

Control System Design, Optimization and Monitoring

control systems

IAL's timely and sensitive analyses have enabled consultants to reliably evaluate new control procedures and equipment, and assess their ongoing performance.  We possess knowledge and experience to support studies on a wide variety of systems, ranging from simple oil/water separator discharge analysis to multimedia (carbon/air) capture and emission evaluations.

Our understanding of process chemistry has saved clients countless hours of repeated trial and error in control system design, modification and testing.

We welcome additional inquiries into these services and invite you to contact us directly to discuss how we may assist with your project needs.
