Established in 1987, Integrated Analytical Laboratories, LLC (IAL) is an employee-owned company that provides exceptional analytical services and solutions to the Pharmaceutical and Environmental Industries. IAL's mission is to provide our clients with highly responsive and efficient services and support, to stay vested and active in the successful outcome of every project, and to consistently implement a long-term vision aligned with the goals of the customer.
We strive to provide our clients with the data, tools, and knowledge necessary for meeting their project requirements every step of the way - from a selection of data reporting formats to Technical Memos highlighting regulatory updates.
What We Do
Pharmaceutical Division – This division provides analytical services for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, specialty chemical, and medical device manufacturers. Offering a broad array of testing services, we provide the development support needed to meet regulatory guidelines throughout your product's life cycle. Our services are provided under the cGMPs required by the FDA, and we routinely support audits by the FDA and by our clients.
Environmental Division – This division is designed to meet the requirements of the environmental marketplace. IAL offers a full range of air, soil, and water sampling, analytical, and technical support services to an established and expanding client roster of consulting engineers, private industry, and government agencies. We are a NELAP Accredited Laboratory (NELAP #TNI01284). We hold state-specific Laboratory Certifications in CT, NJ, NY, and PA, and can perform analyses in a number of other states.
What We Deliver
IAL's experienced staff is at the core of IAL's solid customer service and analytical reputation. Known for focusing on the individual needs of the client, our team understands the chemistry behind the results and is able to assist our clients in all project phases, from project planning through project reporting. We provide the technical insight and resources critical to the development of sampling and analytical programs, the proper collection of varied sample matrices, and the interpretation of resultant data. Our technical knowledge and products are backed by documented Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) programs tailored to the standards applicable to each of our divisions. With a robust data management system, IAL is able to quickly and seamlessly deliver laboratory results to our clients in a variety of formats for most commons software and modeling applications and to address federal and state regulatory submission requirements.

President and Laboratory Director
Michael Leftin, Ph.D.
Dr. Leftin provides strategic direction and hands on leadership in our laboratory, resulting in continual improvements to service delivery and profitability. He possesses decades of experience in solving a wide range of development, manufacturing and process problems. Before establishing Integrated Analytical Laboratories in 1988, he was a Senior Research Scientist at Rohm and Haas Company, where he directed numerous research and development programs on water-based coatings, including novel cross-linking monomers and corrosion resistant materials. Prior to joining Rohm and Haas, Dr. Leftin was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Biophysica Foundation, La Jolla, CA, where his work focused on synthesis and development of blood soluble triodoaromatic compounds for use as diagnostic radioopaque imaging agents.
Dr. Leftin holds a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego, and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Colorado.
Director, Pharmaceutical Laboratory
David R. Browning
David is our Pharmaceutical Laboratory Director. With over 20 years of experience in managing and directing the Quality Assurance and Analytical Research and Development functions in both the pharmaceutical manufacturing and CRO environment, David brings a wealth of practical regulatory knowledge along with a pragmatic outlook to IAL which serves well in resolving regulatory support issues as well as the most challenging method development difficulties facing our customers.
David holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Missouri.
Director, Research and Technology
P. Frank Luo, Ph. D.
Dr. Luo serves as Director of Research and Technology, having established and integrated internal and external resources to form a more comprehensive approach to problem solving across technical disciplines. He possesses over 20 years of experience in both large and small pharma companies. In various companies he has worked, Dr. Luo advanced through increasingly responsible management roles in analytical research and development and in formulations. His grounding in research, and his understanding of technology, markets and customers, help optimize IAL’s approach to problem solving.
Dr. Luo earned his Doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Louisville.
Senior Associate, Biologics
William J. McBride, Ph.D.
Dr. McBride serves as scientific and technical advisor for IAL. His unique experience helps clients in selecting and optimizing small molecule and bioanalytical solutions to meet timelines and regulatory objectives. Working in the field of Immunotherapy and diagnostics, Dr. McBride obtained over 100 US patents for drug delivery, bispecific antibody pre-targeting, receptor targeting, organometallic chemistry, radiotherapy, SPECT imaging, PET imaging, and the Dock and Lock method of making multispecific antibodies. He is the recipient of two Thomas Alva Edison Patent Awards for excellence in biotechnology innovation, and multiple Small Business Innovation Research grants from NIH, totaling $ 1.35 million, for developing new products and technologies. He has authored or co-authored 79 publications, and presented at several national and international scientific conferences.
Dr. McBride earned his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, San Diego, his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, and held a post-doctoral appointment in Peptide Chemistry at M.I.T.
Senior Associate, Formulations
Hock S. Tan, Ph.D.
Dr. Tan directs our drug delivery initiative. He possesses extensive senior management experience in leading formulations groups at a number of pharmaceutical firms, and has led development and clinical manufacturing projects, establishing accelerated and sustained delivery profiles for a wide range of therapies and delivery platforms, including Transdermal/Dermal Delivery Systems, Orally Dissolving Films (ODF), intra-vaginal Drug Delivery Systems. His deep expertise includes the development and commercialization of numerous delivery platforms and devices. Dr. Tan has obtained 8 US patents with 5 more pending, and has 20 papers published in pharmaceutical science, chemistry and chemical engineering journals. His broad background in directing business and collaborative ventures brings practical efficiency to IAL clients’ development projects.
Dr. Tan earned his Doctorate in Chemical Engineering from Queens University, Canada, and holds an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toronto and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cheng Kung University, Taiwan.
Director, Quality Assurance
Lauren M. Jenkins
Lauren is our Director of Quality Assurance and is responsible for maintaining our environmental laboratory certifications under national, state and local governing bodies. She is also responsible for establishing and assuring compliance with internal controls, standards and protocols. Lauren maintains voting membership privileges with the NELAC Institute (TNI) and with ASTM Committees D19: Water and E50: Environmental Assessment, Risk Management, and Corrective Action. Prior to assuming her current position, Lauren was IAL’s Air Department Manager, where she was responsible for IAL becoming the first laboratory physically located in New Jersey to be certified under the new Low Level TO-15 procedure. Lauren possesses additional experience having served as Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety Engineer for Sika Corporation, Lyndhurst, NJ.
Lauren holds an M.S. in Environmental Science from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Newark, NJ, and a B.S. in Environmental Science from Albright College.
Director, Marketing and Business Development
Alan serves as our Director of Marketing and Business Development. He is responsible for creating and implementing IAL’s development plans, driving market share growth, establishing strategic partnerships and commercializing new business and customer initiatives. Previously, Alan was with the American Express Company, focusing on sales strategy, new products, and planning and control.
Alan earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Brooklyn College, and an M.B.A. in Finance from New York University.
Director, Information Technology
Angela is our IT Director, with the primary responsibilities of design and development of the LIMS system using Thermo Nautilus. She developed applications to import/export data to the LIMS system using Visual Basic, and developed and maintains internal/client reports from the LIMS system using Crystal Reports. She developed and maintained Web Applications, and maintains IAL's Domain Servers, Workstations, Phone Systems, T1 and VoIP Lines, and other office equipment. Angela developed applications to communicate with Lab Equipment to gather data for the LIMS system. She has developed and maintained Network Communication architectures and devices such as Cisco Firewall (PIX), Cisco Switches, TCP/IP, 10/100/1000 Cat5/Cat6 Network Cables, A/B/G Wireless Access Point and devices, and Bluetooth devices.
Angela holds a B.S. in Computer Sciences and Mathematics from Montclair State University, and an M.S. in Graphic Communication and Technology from New York University.
Senior Manager, Organic Chemistry
Jim Y.J. Shen
Jim manages our departments which perform organic analyses by various EPA methods and protocols. A key to the success of IAL since its inception in 1988, Jim possesses prior research experience at the Air Pollution Research Laboratory where he worked on the Staten Island, NY Northeastern NJ Urban Air Toxic Assessment Project (CLP) using GC and GC/MS to analyze for trace volatile organic compounds and non-methane total organic carbon by tenax trap and canister, and helped in the development of EPA Method TO-1,2,3 and TO-14.
Jim earned an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology, and holds a B.S. in Applied Chemistry.
